Yemeni man offers his kidney for sale
A Yemeni citizen in the Houthi-seized capital, Sanaa, has offered his kidney for sale as a last resort to secure sustenance for his family, amid deteriorating economic and living conditions ravaging the country. The shocking scene underscores the depth of Yemen’s humanitarian crisis.
The appeal was posted on the platform "X" by the Yemeni Teachers and Academics Club under the name "Youssef Mohammed Mohammed Abdullah", who wrote: "Don’t ask me why, because me and my children are dying of hunger in my own country Yemen."
The citizen’s post read: "Announcement: ‘I want to sell my kidney. Anyone interested in purchasing it can contact me. My name is Youssef Mohammed Mohammed Abdullah from Yemen. My contact number: 00967771508283’."
"Poverty is consuming us, and famine is almost devouring us. There is no hope of finding a job, and all options have vanished after the suspension of salaries in the government sector and the collapse of daily life". He added.
The plea exposes the tragic reality facing citizens under the Houthi militia’s control of the capital, where worsening economic crises have forced people to resort to selling organs as their only means of securing basic family needs.
The citizen’s desperate decision sparked widespread reactions among Yemenis and human rights advocates, who condemned the dire living conditions that drove him to this painful choice. They also highlighted the immense suffering of citizens in Houthi-controlled areas, where the economic situation continues to deteriorate due to blockade policies, lack of job opportunities, and the collapse of essential services.
