Yemeni forces seize drug shipment en route to Iran-backed Houthis

Security forces in Marib province (northeastern Yemen) said on Saturday that they seized 190 kilograms of drugs at a security checkpoint at the entrance of the province while attempting to smuggle them into areas controlled by the Iran-backed Houthis.

During the years of war, drug trafficking flourished in Yemen, as quantities of drugs flowed through Iran to its proxies in Yemen by smuggling them across the sea.

The British and American forces, as well as the Yemeni coast guard, have succeeded in intercepting and busted several shipments of drugs at sea that were destined for the Houthis.
